Breeze of Kelaniya blows across Sydney...

It was a warm summer night when the University of Kelaniya Alumni Association of NSW and ACT (UKAANA) with their friends and families gathered at Spoons Restaurant Blacktown on Friday 11 March 2016 night.
It was presumed to be a baby step for the very young Alumni Association formed just a few months ago, but proved to be a glamourous fun filled event for everyone who attended. The warmth of the night was drowned by the fresh breeze of friendship reminiscing over the years spent at university. Surpassing borders , friendship flourished as fellow alumni arrived from Canberra and also among our Peradeniya, Jayawardenapura ,Colombo alumni and Ceylon German Technical Training Institute Old Boy's Association of NSW Inc.
The anecdotal chit chat ensued over incidents and experiences of a by gone era amidst the palm trees, the little hamlet of Wewaldeniya and the much dreaded ‘Siberia”.
The warm welcome extended by Prabhath Amarasinghe ,the president of the Alumni Association was followed by the music of DJ Shehan as he lured the crowd waltzing towards the dancing floor. Sanjaya Dissanayake and Nargis Umagiliya the MC’s for the day , kept the events afloat in a vibrant atmosphere of around two hundred guests.
The sumptuous South Asian cuisine of Spoons enticed the gathering and the music continued with a mix of Sri Lankan and Western to a finale of a baila session to the excitement of frenzied dancers on a packed dance floor.
Music , food and mostly the lovely company of friends that evoke nostalgia of times gone by of a beloved university and a country have revived us like a fresh breeze at the very first Summer Dinner Dance of the Alumni Association of University of Kelaniya NSW and ACT . Let’s keep the fond memories alive until we meet again.
